I would upgrade to YDL 3.0. There's a nasty kppp bug in older versions of YDL that makes modems behave in angry ways. You can either upgrade using a combo of YUP and apt-get (more at http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/solutions/) or you can buy / download a new copy and reinstall. I recommend getting your hands on a new copy. It will be a cleaner install.
