Corrupt Kernel?

Hello,
I was saving a file in phoenix on Gnome on ydl 2.2 on my bronze g3
powerbook, when suddenly X-windows froze. None of the usual keystrokes
to kill it worked, so I force restarted (3 fingers, etc). When it
restarted, it got to yaboot (1.3.6) and said:

boot: linux
Please wait, loading kernel...
/pci/mac-io/ata-3@20000/disk@0:4,/boot/vmlinux: Unknown or corrupt
filesystem
boot: _

Obviously something went wrong when I restarted; I'm afraid of doing
anything without some guidance as I don't want to mess up anything on
that disk, there are some things I need. Is this disk recoverable?
