Trouble in compiling kernel 2.4.20

Charles,

while we have too few clues as to the exact steps you
took (where did you uncompress the kernel source, what
does your .config file look like, you didn't just
overwrite the existing kernel source, did you?, did
you use a config file from an earlier version while
trying to compile this one?, etc...), I assure you
that it is very easy to configure/compile a kernel
that will not boot. I also assure you that every
(stable) kernel source tree that I have ever
downloaded from ppckernel.org has always compiled like
a charm. So it is *not* the kernel source tree.

My first recommendation: start with a working .config
file (like the one that came with your yellowdog
distro), and launch two menuconfigs in two different
terminals (not xterminals, ttys), one with the working

.config, and one with yours. Then compare, item by
item, between the two and proceed until it works.
