Gnome2 Font trouble

Hello y'all
I have just installed gnome2 via garnome and
installed it correctly (I used the install Gnome2
how-to on terrasoft) to /opt/gnome2. I just started
it up and right when the loading dialog comes up X
stops and displays the message (in the shell)
Something about "couldn't find fonts, fonts.conf
isn't configured properly, read the fontconfig
manual.....blah". Anyway, anyone know how to fix
this? I could really use the help.
