I am trying to install YD 2.3 on a Power Mac 5500 with 32 Megs of memory and Mac OS 8.1. I have read Rob Dye's excellent HOWTO
http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/solutions/ydl_general/limited_memory.shtml
on installing YD 2.1 on a low memory system. His solution is to drop down to the command line and format the Linux partitions manually to avoid the installer terminating abnormally due to memory exhaustion.

When I try to use his method I get stuck trying to create the device nodes.
		mknod /dev/hda b 3 0
The command returns:
		mknod: /dev/hda: Read-Only file system
Then parted /dev/hda returns:
Error: Could not stat device /dev/hda - No such file or directory.

Could anyone educate me on where I'm going wrong, and how to get this method working for me? Alternately, does anyone have other suggestions for installing on this machine?

Thanks in advance,
Gordo
