how to make binaries execute...?

Hi,I'm trying to open a binary file which was originally LinuxPPC(I think)
without much luck. Every time I try to open it I get 'command not found or
if I use ./ in front of the binary name I get 'process ID: 14345' (or similar)

I know I should probably 'chmod' but I have no idea what to write.

The ownership is: User:998   Group:games

user,group and others I've got:

Read,Write and Exec.

Any ideas how I can get this to work?
