Time running way too fast - why?

Hi everybody,
I have a strange phenomena on a PM 8200, running YDL 2.2: the time is
running way too fast. It is almost 240 secs/day. Is that possible?
I had a script executed by cron once a day to resync the time:
Jan 12 04:02:00 wwwsvr02 ntpdate[27317]: step time server 129.69.1.153
offset -230.708072 sec
Jan 13 04:01:57 wwwsvr02 ntpdate[3321]: step time server 129.69.1.153
offset -230.706668 sec
Jan 14 04:01:58 wwwsvr02 ntpdate[3733]: step time server 129.69.1.153
offset -230.712940 sec
I now enabled ntpd and get the following results, cluttering my logfile:
Jan 19 06:57:15 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: time reset -1.287955 s
Jan 19 06:57:15 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: synchronisation lost
Jan 19 07:16:41 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: time reset -3.411334 s
Jan 19 07:16:41 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: synchronisation lost
Jan 19 07:21:04 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: time reset -0.532930 s
Jan 19 07:21:04 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: synchronisation lost
Jan 19 07:25:25 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: time reset -1.204847 s
Jan 19 07:25:25 wwwsvr02 ntpd[5356]: synchronisation lost
I don't really mind about all those entries in the log file, but all my
other machines do not show this behaviour. They all run YDL and are all
Macs (ANS, PM 7500, beige G3 DT).
What causes this machine's time to run away like this? Any ideas
appreciated.
Greetings,
Alex
