The Broadcom NIC's are tempermental beasts. Browse through the
linux-poweredge list at lists.us.dell.com and you'll see many a cranky
user with 8-way 6450's bitching about the instability of the tg3 and
bcm5700 drivers and having to add e1000's to their machine just to get
uptime of more than a few days. (I have e100's in my 1550 and am really
happy :)

RedHat is working on the tg3 driver but it's not all there, even for
ia32. See Jeff Garzik's (sp?) aragorn{1,2} kernels based on the the
latest RH-8+tg3 fixes.
