Hi Stephan,
I do not know about using standard PC wlan cards in a PowerBook, but I
do know that you can use the AirPort card under Linux and with *most*
wlan access points. I have used mine with D-Link, LinkSys, and NetGear
access points. The only problem I am aware of is that if you have an
older card (mine is from 2000) there are sometimes problems using them
with access points that support 128bit WEP *only*.
