YDL install into an Extended Partition

Hi, everyone. If this question is one of the newbie questions, please =
forgive me, I am myself a newbie. Basically I've got an install =
question.
I want to install YDL 3 on a 2001 (Dual-USB) iBook. I'd like to install =
YDL into a 3 GB partition (the first one on the drive) that is currently =
being used by OS 9.
The YDL install manual calls for reformatting the drive and leaving the =
space for linux unallocated. I'd rather not do that; is it possible to =
somehow reformat an existing partition for use by YDL?
