Best video setting for G4 Cube?

I have a standard G4 Cube with YDL installed. The video is working OK, except that when I start KDE, it defaults to, it appears, 800x600. I would like to change it to 1024X768.

The how to adjust video FAQ on the YDL web site is not very helpful. It tells you to choose Display from the KDE menu, which calls up a utility to supposedly change the video settings. However, this utility shows that my video is already set at 1024X768. I don't believe it.

There is a button in this utility that says "probe video card". I tried it, and it changed the card setting from fbdev to r128. I assume that means ATI Rage 128, a standard video card in many Macs. However, when I reboot with this setting, X will not start.

I also had a look at the XF86Config file, as suggested in the YDL video FAQ. It shows my card as being capable of four different resolutions, including 1024X768.

As I recall from using some other Linux distribution (on Intel), there was some sort of keyboard shortcut that you pressed to change resolutions while X was running. Can you do this in YDL?
