Trackpad woes on iBook 800 (Nov 2002 edition)

Hi listers,

I am back after a long lurk.  I bit the bullet this morning and
installed YDL3 on my beloved 6 month old ibook.  Everything seems to
work just fine except my trackpad doesn't seem to allow tap-clicking.  I
have gotten used to this under OSX and 9 and it is rather tough to get
used to using the button!

I have tried editing the /etc/sysconfig/trackpad file to reflect
trackpad option to "tap" rather than "notap".  After a restart I STILL
cannot tap.

What am I doing wrong, please?
