AFP on ATA/IDE

On YDL 2.3 running AFP, used as an AppleShare server
by another Mac running Mac OS 9.0.4, I experience the
following bugs:

1)	Any alias made of any folder is only valid for the duration of the mount...
when the AFP volume served by YDL 2.3 is remounted, the alias points to a
different target. Reboot the server under Mac OS 9.2.2 and use it as the
AFP AppleShare server, and that problem does not happen. Same problem
within a program: Graphic Converter, which stores "Move Folder" destinations
in its' preferences file... valid for multiple launches of Graphic Converter
as long as I don't unmount/remount the AFP volume served by YDL 2.3... as
soon as I remount, the "Move Folders" are scrambled to point to completely
unrelated directories on the AFP volume.

2) Using on the YDL 2.3 served AFP volume a file as a backup storage set for
Retrospect backup software, every backup attempt results in an error in
communication with the file... appearantly the file gets written
successfully, and then Retrospect "rewinds" the file to read from it for it's
compare phase, and then it aborts the backup/compare operation. Again,
reboot the AFP server in Mac OS 9.2.2 and do the same operation with
no problems. Reboot the AFP server in YDL 2.3 and always experience
this error.

Conclusion: There are bugs in the AFP server.

While all these errors happen, monitoring /var/log/messages shows that
afpd logs the mounts and unmounts, but it never generates any error messages,
so afpd is blindly oblivious to any problems, it thinks it's working fine.

OK... so where is afpd storing the data? on an ATA/IDE drive.
My YDL installation has "/" on an UW SCSI drive, and
/home on an ATA/IDE drive (60GB) pulled from an Apple G4.
I'm running a Beige G3 MiniTower Rev.A (Gossamer).
I'm seeing no disk errors in /var/log/messages.

This appears NOT to be an ATA/IDE drive problem,
but instead an afpd bug.
