Recommended upgrade method

So you are saying that w/ 3.0 we should do a complete install rather 
than an upgrade?  I understand that the apt-get upgrade/install might 
not be recommended, but do you also recommend against getting the CDs 
and choosing the "upgrade" option that will leave existing 
configurations intact?
