I had both the wireless card and the wireless hub from apple
before, both running fine; I still have the same card, but a new linksys
router instead of the apple hub; it is true that I find Apple's names
for things, here as in so many places, grossly and gratuitously
confusing.

I have not only read the confounded site thoroughly --
several times -- and printed it -- and worked through it --again several
times -- line by line, with either the printout or the site on another
machine in front of me. I am doing so now for the umpteenth time.

The second line (already!) fails in two ways I have no idea how
to deal with. It tells me to run netconfig if I haven't. Of course I
have -- it was configured in Vienna, blast it! -- but I run it anyway.
It asks me whether to configure eth0 or eth1, with no faintest hint how
to tell. I try eth0. It asks three alternatives. Again I guess, and tell
it dhcp. Then it gives me an error box saying "A dhcp server did not
respond. TCP/IP was not configured."

None of that happened with the apple hub, btw.

I try again, with eth1 this time. Same result.

Incidentally, after each failure I get a line on my root
terminal saying INSTALL_BACK.

As I tried to say yesterday, perhaps at too great length, Tony
did indeed (twice now) answer what I asked -- instead of what I'm trying
to ask ... (Maybe we should get a medium to ask Alan Turing about Tony!
<joke>)

Did no error message that I put into my rant tell anyone
anything? There *were* a lot of specifics in there, along with the
ranting ...
