IF you mean the X resolution then you have to go to /etc/X11/XF86Config
and there is a section that looks like:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device     "ATI Rage 128 Mobility"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth     16
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     16
                Modes    "1024x768"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

You will need to edit the modes line that is appropriate for the depth
you wish to edit.
