Err.. This is what initrd is for (else I wouldn't be able to boot my raid 
array!)  Are you sure the initrd is loaded/ing?  Is there one?

AFIK, the kernel-sources package include the config file for the as 
shipped kernel (it should) if you find this to not be the case, I;d 
suggest filing a bug at bugs.terrasoft.com and maybe asking here and 
someone can probably produce one for you easily.
