Weird trouble installing YDL 3.0 on a 3400c

I installed it on a 3400 using the graphical installer and it works fine,
except for the sound. While the sound module works it is never loaded
automatically. The sound card detection utility says that there is no sound
card present even when the module is loaded. So other than sound I haven't
had any problems with 3.0.
