  I've spoken to a number of local Linux users here, and it's a
problem with the ISO image available on the YDL website. As it only
seems to affect various of the KDE files, the easiest way around the
problem is to not install KDE (use Gnome instead), and download the
various seperate KDE files from wherever and install them.
  I'm about halfway through the process... it's long, but it seems to
be working so far.
