newbie - internet dialup setup problems

Help

I'm sure this is simple, But I'm stuck. I have tried to set a dial up 
internet account with network connection wizard, with no success. After 
putting in all necessary info, then checking details, activation stalls 
or fails. Sometimes it shows that it is activated but it hasn't dialed 
or done anything. This is not very detailed, but I'm new to all this and 
trying to remeber what all went wrong in YDL then rebooting into OSX to 
send this doesn't help much.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
