Oops: machine check, sig: 7

I am getting Oops' a little too frequently for my liking - always a machine 
check, sig: 7.  What does that mean?  It happens sometimes when I switch 
ethernet interfaces (I switch between wireless at home and wired at work) and 
sometimes when I mount various externel drives (a 200 GB firewire drive and a 
couple small USB flash drives and card readers).  Where can I reap up on 
this?
