Is Apple better than Windows ?

You should still be able to boot into Linux when this happens. When I
perform updates from Apple, it sometimes modifies (deletes?) my boot
loader, but Linux is still there. If you know what your partition
number is, then you can boot into "open firmware" by holding down
"o"+"f"+"alt/option"+"apple/command" keys during bootup. At the ">"
prompt enter...

boot hd:##,yaboot

where ## is your partition number.

If you don't know what number it is try numbers around ~10+ like...

boot hd:10,yaboot

or

boot hd:11,yaboot

My G3 Yosemite has been like this for many months. This is the
procedure I use to boot YDL 3.0 on it.

Hope this helps.
