1- KMenu -> Sound and Video -> Sound Mixer.
2- Select 'Configure KMix...' from Settings menu.
3- Check 'Show Labell' then Apply & OK
4- Look for the 3rd column labeled 'Line' make sure the red led-like at
the buttom is set to ON. (There is 3 leds, one is under 'Line', another
under 'Microphone' and the 3rd one is under 'CD'.) Click the red circle
trigger ON/OFF state.

For your convenience I'll give you my actual Mixer setup:
Volume: 100% (this one is also adjustable via the speaker found on the
System Tray...)
Speaker: 100%
Line: 0% (the led is ON even if the volume is set to 0%)
Microphone: 0%, led OFF
CD: 100% led ON
Pcm2: no effect....
RecMon: no effect....
IGain: no effect....
Monitor: no effect...

I use XMMS to play my audio CDs. Im listening to EMINEM - The EMINEM
Show right now ;)

Setup XMMS to play audio CDs:
1- bring XMMS in front (of course)
2- hit <Control-P> this will spawn Preferences screen
3- On Audio I/O Plugins, click AudioCD Reader 0.11b [libcdread.so] make
sure the 'Enable plugin' is checked.
4- Click Configure button then on the Output tab. Mine is set to 'Play
Digital CD audio'. Click OK
5- select 'CD Audio Player 1.2.7 [libcdaudio.so]' and UNCHECK the
'Enable plugin' checkbox.
6- Select 'OSS Driver 1.2.7' [libOSS.so] from the 'Output Plugin'
pull-down menu. CLick 'Apply' then 'OK'
7- quit and re-launch XMMS

It should play audio CDs very well from now on.. This work for me
fairly well! ;)
NOTE: you may have to do 'xmms /dev/cdrom' instead of just 'xmms'

Andrew hope this help!
