Installing YDL 3.0.1 From External Firewire CDROM

Yes, I've tried that too, I get the exact same results
as if I do a Option-Command-Shift-Delete (reads the
cd,
begins a boot, flashes a light gray screen) the only
difference is that when I select the YDL cd from the
boot-device menu (Option) vs.
Option-Command-Shift-Delete, it flashes the gray
screen and then quickly returns to the boot-device
selection menu. 

Any other ideas? Has what I'm trying been done before?
