Mac OS X root

Make sure you've enabled root.  This is done via the NetInfo Manager 
utility, found in the Utilities folder/directory.  If you need to, you 
can change the root password there.

Then, sudo fink <whatever> and it should work.  Also, installing Fink 
Commander makes it easier, using a GUI instead of the command line.

As mentioned over and over here, in HOWTO's and FAQ's, it's better to 
sudo or su - than to open a root terminal.
