another stupid question

I didn't use Xfree86, but used apple's x11 (based on xf86, I think). 
But what you have to do is edit your /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc file.  This
gives directions to start KDE or Gnome when you start your xwindows
manager.  Then, KDE will start up and you'll have access to KDE apps.

You'll still have the Aqua interface around.  You'll need to put the
Kicker and the Dock on different sides of the screen so they don't get
in each other's way.
