Yeah, you were right../etc/ld.so.conf had /usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib and I 
have installed qt-3.3.  AND there was one of those .rpmnew files 
(/etc/ld.conf.rpmnew).  Thanks everyone.

P.S.  Should I search for all the .rpmnew files and fix the associated 
config file?
