ALSA configuration

I can see that you and I have escaped holiday festivities for a while.

My experience with streams is the play quality is effected by the
effective data transfer rate [link speed, actual transfers,
interruptions, etc].  The sound will be smooth and continuous if the
buffer stays full.  Increasing buffer size helps.

I haven't tried using XMMS or Xine to listen to a stream.  I guess I
should so I can hear what you are experiencing.
