Hello, im just done building Xorg 6.8.1. I've used the 'official'
tarball from x.org site. Im using it right now its overall 'snappier'
with my Mach64 6MB (beige G3's build-in so-called video card).
 IE:
1- the rectangle shaped zooms when minimizing windows are now really
zoomin' to the taskbar instead of lazily going down there.
2- XMMS windows were *very* slow before 6.8.1. Now its real close to
YDL3 speed. That is a good thing :-)

(only) problem I've spot so far:
1- Some fonts have changed. Opera's fonts were microscopic, terminal's
and gkrellm's fonts have changed, too... I like'em better anyway :)

I jumped on it on my own. Performing a straight build and install. I
didnt removed the 6.6 RPMs prior to build 6.8.1. I'd say its a success.
I have yet to reconfigure XF86Config file. Its still using the original
one (from 6.6)

All I have done is:
1- download the tarball... (from x.org 'single-src' file:
X11R66.8.1-src.tar.gz -
2- cd /usr/src/yellowdog/SOURCES/ [enter]
3- tar zxvf /home/andrew/dls/X11R6.8.1-src.tar.gz [enter]
4- cd xc [enter]
5- nedit README RELNOTES BUILD & [enter]
# Im pleased to see documentation is getting better!
6- make World > World.log 2>&1 [enter]
# making sure all went fine:
7- nedit World.log & [enter]
# Yes, its alright!
8- su -c 'make install; make install.man' [enter]
9- Reboot!
