iBook modem

I have never been able to get wvdial to work with my iBook but I can 
connect with kppp, the KDE dialer. I have to send an ATM0 command to 
the modem before dialing to disable the speaker.

I used Minicom to interrogate the modem, this is what it returned. 
Might be worth comparing it to your modem.
