still having trouble configuring X

Okay, I've snipped out all the comments.  In the below section look
for        SubSection "Display"

> > #               Modes           "1024x768"

In the modes section add whatever modes you want, i.e. "1280x1024"
"800x600" for each depth section reboot or just restart the Xserver
if you use kdm/kde.  The added modes should be a new option....
