Directory/Trash Switcheroo

For some reason, all of my directory icons have changed into trash can icons 
and my trash can now looks like a directory.  I have no idea why it did this, 
but it happened this morning.  I went to trash something and when I moused 
over the trash can, it changed into a directory.  And now it's always 
displayed as a directory.

Has anyone else seen this before?  And better yet, how can I fix it?
