Invisible files

Hi All,

I have today installed YDL 3.0.1 on a PowrBook G3
(Pismo)

All went well, I mounted my hfs+ partition, started
looking around and then went into a directory I knew
was full of stuff, did ls, nothing.

I rebooted into MacOS X, and after a heart stopping
moment discovered that the files wrer there.

Back to  Linux, still gone.  I noted that I had a
directory called Documents, so at the prompt I did 

cd Documents

No error,

ls

And there were my files.

How do I fix and stop this happening ?
