I've never heard the fan turn on in my iBook either. Temp hovers around
low 20s and creeps up to 40ish if it's busy for a long time (eg. kernel
compilation).
If they let me design laptops I'd probably put the fan under hardware
control but I gather Macs do it from software, so there must be
something compiled into the kernel, a kernel module or a daemon that
monitors temperature and turns the fan on when required. Does anybody
know how this works? Is it possible to toggle the fan on/off manually
to verify it's working. What temp should it turn on?
Enquiring minds want to know Charles.
