damn GLIB trying to compile gaim .75

Make sure you have glib2-devel installed. Alternatively, grab a 
.src.rpm from Red Hat 9 updates of gaim-0.75 and rebuild it. I know 
that works, because I did that. If you can wait till I get back 
home, I can point you to a .ppc.rpm.
