How to boot a New World without graphics card?

I see there have already been a number of headless discussions going on
here. But none of them answered my problem, or at least I was unable
to extract an answer from them.

I have a Cube which I have been running as a headless OS X server,
headless in the sense of no graphics cards, no monitor.

The graphic card produces a lot of heat and the machine is on 24/7. no
need for for the waste.

OS X booted and ran just fine like this, but I have decided to run
Linux instead.

Linux installed fine (with a graphics card) and is all setup. But
unplug the graphic card and linux won't boot.

I am guessing linux is looking for the card? But I don't know.

Any advice or pointers will be much appreciated.
