Seems like you just forgot to erase gimp-devel :

rpm -qa '*gimp*'
(will show you all packages installed containing "gimp" in their name)

You would have seen it then. From the rest of your email, it looks like
you finally got everything solved package-wise. Sorry to read that you
waisted a whole afternoon because of me, though :-(
