I have played briefly with several of the *many* text editors available
with Yellow Dog Linux. None of them quite matches BBEdit's feature set,
but you can hunt among them for one that most meets your needs.

GUI-based editors include kedit, nedit, gedit (beginning to see a
pattern?), kate, joe, jed, gawk, and probably several I have forgotten.
Try them all until you find one that you like. I have played mostly with
kedit, gedit, and kate. For a while I preferred gedit, though, for the
life of me, I cannot recall why.

As an aside, although I am a GUI fan, I think it is worth your while to
learn at least one of the console-based text editors, since so many
Linux tasks must be performed in that environment. Who knows, you may
actually learn to prefer one of the console-based editors? Some, like
emacs (or xemacs) and vi/vim have become exceedingly powerful (and
exceedingly arcane and complex). emacs, for instance, can do more than
just about any text editor you have ever used, and as much as some
entire operating systems (look for "games" in the built-in help system
:-) ). pico and its clone nano are the most GUI-like of the command line
editors, and have the shortest learning curve, so I tend to use them
when possible. However, they are the least feature-rich of the
console-based editors, so I have been meaning to force myself to learn
vi or emacs.

Let us know what you settle on!

Best wishes,
Clint
