yum errors

Well after removing yum:
rpm -e yum
then reinstalling rpm -ivh yum.* 

I still get the same errors.  A google search got me bupkis.  Anyone
else run into this problem?

I get the following error

TypeError: stat() argument 1 must be (encoded string without NULL
bytes), not str

I've tried to clean out headers, yum info, etc... I think you get the
picture.
