After rpm -e yum 

@ CLI I typed "whereis yum" any instance of yum I removed by using
shred after verifying no more instances of yum I typed 

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*

to remove any lock state information

then

rpm --rebuilddb

once it was done

reinstall blah, blah, blah... nothing

It's become a challenge, I WILL fix this!
