USB hard drive and CD-RW

When I type "/sbin/modprobe usb-storage" and hit enter, nothing happens (I
am doing this as root). I get no error message or response of any kind.
I just get a new command line. When I did "/sbin/modprobe -l" and got the
full list,
"/lib/modules/2.4.22-2g/kernel/drivers/usb/storage/usb-storage.o" was
listed.
