Using Cd's to uprade current install

Has anyone fixed/ repaired a YDL install by booting the install cd's
then choosing the upgrade existing installation option?  I've done
this in Mandrake many a time, but never in YDL and was wondering if
anyone has done this and what snafus, hijinks and shenanigans this
caused.  Thanks in advance
