Maybe no one responded to your query because no one knew the answer. 
We help each other, but if none of us have ever installed a serial
USrobotics 56K modem we really can't help you.   Don't take it
personally.

PS: If you do a search of the archives, my initial inquiries about
YDL were about a serial USrobotics 56K modem.  Which I got to work by
using RH -network config.
