Dennis,
I've seen the exact same scenario with sirius-20031118.
I thought I was there when I got yaboot to load from OF, only to have my
hopes dashed.
The disk works fine on other systems and the installer's media-check says
it's OK on
a G4 system.
My system is single CPU, 1.8 GHz.
Many weeks with the New G5 and still no Yellow Dog happening.

Subject: YDL installation issues with G5
Hi all,
I have a serious issue with installing YDL 3.0.1 on a G5.
Firstly, I was only able to boot from the YDL CD via 'Open Firmware'
(cmd-alt-o-f). At this stage I thought my prayers were answered but I was
shot down really quickly when I entered the installation phase.
After selecting the type of install (install, install text, etc.), the very
next screen displayed the following message:
Starting cpu cpus/PowerPC,970 ... failed: 00000000
Initializing fake screen: NVDA, Display-B
Calling quiesce ...
DO_QUIESCE finished returning 0x01400000 from prom_init
Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 00000000.01403750 %SRR1:10000000.00083030
Then it presents an 'open firmware' prompt and it all locks up.
Note that I have tried all the different install types at the YDL boot
prompt and I have also tried burning the ISO's from Mac's Disk Utility and
the Windows-based Ahead Nero with the same results. MD5sums check out too.
G5 Specs: Dual 1.8GHz G5/1GB DDR400/160G SATA HDD/NVidia GeForce FX 5200
Appreciate any help with this.
Dennis.
