Difficulty of Updating Kernel, Apps in YellowDog?

I'm thinking of switching distros and have a few questions:

1) How difficult is it to update a kernel (to 2.4.x) in YDL? (Is there a GUI?)
2) Can I switch from YUM to apt-get? (apt-get seems to handle dependencies 
better)
3) Can I easily update Gnome/KDE to the latest stable releases?
