i thought it might be the dvd/cd-rw but putting a cd in under macosx did
not stop it. i moved a copy of nemo to the desktop and the sound
continued, pressing the eject button caused the cd icon to disappear and
there was no icon afterwords in finder under computer. i had to reboot
and go into ydl to eject that cd. i am currently in ydl with a cd
loaded<looney tunes> and there is no problem now _but_ it is an
intermitent problem and it was doing it for a while right after i booted
into ydl so ??? .... the first time this happened i eventually could not
boot and after calling apple tech i bought a new hd///problem solved. it
sounds like the clunk of heads on a hd repeated trying to access data.
but it could be the dvd-cd-rw...has to be one or the other, right? why
would a new hd make it go away for a couple months?

:-)^2
