Hello Henry,

Since YDL is a RH-based distro you will find a file called ".Xclients-default" 
in your home directory which is read when you startup you run startx. All 
you'll find there is the line "exec startkde", which starts kde as your WM. 
For gnome, you should comment it out and append "exec gnome-session", for 
which you must have gnome-session installed. If you don't have it yet, yum 
will be your friend.
On other distros the file is called .xinitrc, where you can also set stuff eg. 
which keymap to use
