Dependencies in ppp-2.4.3

Hello!
I have installed yellowdog-4.0-20050208 (I presume that it is 4.0.1, is
that right?) on a G4 iMac.
I want to make Internet work, and my particular problem is that my
connexion works under PPOATM, so that I must have (or so I believe) an
atm-aware version of ppp. The one in YDL (2.4.2) is not, but it would
appear that ppp-2.4.3 is.
So I looked for an rpm, found ppp-2.4.3-4mdk.ppc.rpm (written for
Mandrake, but why not try it?) and tested it like this:
[root at sirrah travaux]# rpm -ivh --test ppp-2.4.3-4mdk.ppc.rpm
warning: ppp-2.4.3-4mdk.ppc.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 26752624
error: Failed dependencies:
libpcap.so.0 is needed by ppp-2.4.3-4mdk
[root at sirrah travaux]#
Then I looked for the missing library and found that it is provided by
libpcap, which is included in YDL:
[root at sirrah root]# rpm -ql libpcap-0.8.3-6.yd4.1
......................................................
/usr/lib/libpcap.so
/usr/lib/libpcap.so.0
/usr/lib/libpcap.so.0.8
/usr/lib/libpcap.so.0.8.3
......................................................
root at sirrah root]#
Here I am puzzled: how is it possible that a file be said here to be
present, and there to be missing?
Is it a matter of directory or of access path, or what? or are there two
different files, so that I should get the library from a Mandrake site?
(If the rpm fails, I could always try the tarball).
I would be grateful for all advice.
Charles
