device-mapper missing from kernel?

When I did the installation, I chose the  'install everything'  option, but
the default configuration for
the kernel didn't seem to have LVM enabled. I had to recompile with LVM
enabled, then
it all worked.

So I have to recompile the kernel?

That seems so odd that the raid modules and the LVM support modules are
all compiled into the kernel, but they are useless because the device
mapper module is not. (I tried both raid linear and LVM before becoming
frustrated.) Maybe the dm-mod module is just missing from the kernel
rpm. Has anyone got a reply from Terra Soft on this issue?
