device-mapper missing from kernel?

Thanks Peter.

I have since recompiled the kernel to RPM and installed a working device
mapper enabled kernel. 

My disappointment in having to do so remains.

Do you know if there is a sight for storing fixed RPMs so that others
can benefit without needing to know how to compile a kernel? I am not
new to linux, but I am very new to YDL.
